Mr Ravi Menon
Managing Director, Monetary Authority of Singapore

Mr Ravi Menon was appointed Managing Director of the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) in 2011. Mr Menon was previously Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Trade & Industry (MTI) and Deputy Secretary at the Ministry of Finance (MOF).

At MTI (2007-2011), Mr Menon led the ministry's work in economic strategy, industrial development, energy policies, research and development, international trade agreements and regional economic integration. He chaired the APEC Senior Officials Meetings when Singapore hosted and chaired APEC in 2009.

At MOF (2003-2007), Mr Menon was responsible for fiscal policy, tax and expenditure, and government investments and reserves. He oversaw the preparation of the Annual Budget Statements and led a review of the investment policy of the Singapore Government Investment Corporation.

Mr Menon began his career at MAS in 1987. During his 16 years in MAS, he was involved in monetary policy, econometric forecasting; corporate communications, organisational development, banking regulation and liberalisation, and integrated supervision of complex financial institutions. Mr Menon spent a year at the Bank for International Settlements in Basel, Switzerland, as a member of the secretariat to the Financial Stability Forum.

A recipient of the Public Administration Medal (Gold), Mr Menon has served on boards in the public, private, and people sectors. He was a board member of the Housing and Development Board, Singapore Totalisator Board, Agency for Science, Technology, and Research, Civil Service College, National Research Foundation, and Deputy Chairman of the Central Provident Fund Board. He was also on the board of directors of DBS Bank. He is currently on the board of trustees of the Singapore Indian Development Association, a volunteer group dedicated to build a strong Singaporean Indian community; and on the board of governors of Raffles Institution.

Mr Menon holds a Master's in Public Administration from Harvard University and a Bachelor of Social Science (Honours) in Economics from the National University of Singapore. A two-time winner of the Prime Minister's Book Prize, Mr Menon was a prefect and scout leader at Raffles Institution where he had his secondary/post-secondary education.
